2020, am I right? What a preposterous year. The one and only wedding I got to photograph this year (thanks, COVID-19!) was Ariah and Eric’s outdoor hay field wedding in Gore’s Landing, just off Rice Lake, Ontario. Even with a pared down guest list to meet gathering restrictions, the day could not have been more perfect. Ariah had only two photo-specific requests for me on the day — grab a shot of her wedding dress with the willow tree, and a picture of her standing on a hay bale. Easy! The setting sun combined with rain clouds rolling in provided a great backdrop for the hay bale, and we managed to get under the tent just in time to avoid the rain.
One thing about shooting in a hay field that nobody warns you about: the insects are ridiculously large. I have never seen such massive crickets, grasshoppers, and spiders in my life!
Also, every wedding needs Krispy Kreme donuts. I may or may not have had three.
